We recently chatted with director Amy Glazer and screenwriter Sylvia Brownrigg, the filmmakers behind Kepler’s Dream. They discuss working together to adapt Brownrigg’s young adult novel, their personal connections to the story of fractured families and how they were able to find the film’s best narrative with limited resources. Kepler’s dream is a family adventure/drama about an 11 year-old girl searching for a missing rare book from her grandmother's (Holland Taylor) library. We recently chatted with screenwriter Nick Rufca as well as directors Kerry Carlock and Nicholas Lund-Ulrich, the creators of Armstrong Carlock, Lund and Rufca dish on the process of producing an independent film, from concept to “pencils down,” while also working full-time jobs in the industry. The action film is about a rookie EMT and her partner who pick up a wounded superhero and are pulled into his mission to save Los Angeles from a sinister organization. We recently sat down with McG, director of Netflix's latest original comedy horror film, The Babysitter to learn how Brian Duffield's (Insurgent) script spoke to him, the inspiration behind his cinematic vision for the film and his advice on "delivering" to your audience. John Pollono gets in depth on the many challenges of writing Stronger, an adaptation of the original book about Jeff Bauman (Jake Gyllenhaal), who lost both of his legs when a bomb went off during the 2013 Boston Marathon. We learn about the collaborative process of "what stays and what goes" in the film, Pollono's favorite scene and how his experience as an actor came into play when writing the script. We recently sat down with members of the Made in NY Writers Room - Sarah Kraus, Sofia Quintero, Bryan Parker and Joyce Wu - to learn more about their incredible experience with mentors like Beau Willimon (House of Cards). Like with any fellowship or lab, the fellows hope to "get in the door" or be staffed in a writers room. But Made in NY gives them the confidence that having their own TV show on the air is a very real possibility.
